Album Review: The Chainsmokers - Memories...Do Not Open

Image result for memories do not open
Hey guys! I'm here to review my second album, which is The Chainsmokers' Memories...Do Not Open. First, anyone notice in the top right corner of the album cover it says "Stay awake"? Just saying. But anyway, this is their first full-length album. I don't think anyone would have predicted in 2014 that these guys would become really popular. The album title kinda bothers me, because it kinda sounds like it shows that "memories don't open" but it's actually "this is a box of memories, do not open it". All of the tracks that do not have a featured artist include vocals from The Chainsmokers. Okay I know you just want to see the album review so here it is, track-by-track.

Track 1: The One

This is a calm track, it doesn't have much to it. But there literally is no EDM in the first minute of the song. The EDM is really in the second half of the song, and it's not much. It's a nice track to start the album, but I'm just giving a warning that there's not a lot of the EDM we expected.

Rating: 8/10

Track 2: Break Up Every Night

This is hands-down the best song off this album. And no, it's not your regular "good song", it's great. Actually, it's amazing. I'm pretty sure I like this because The Chainsmokers say this has indie rock roots and I like indie rock music. The EDM/production, specifically in the verses, is amazing. The EDM right after the second chorus is literally magical. The verses and pre-chorus are really fast-moving and that is the majority of what makes the song amazing to me. In parts of the song his vocals aren't that good but I still love the song. The meaning is, in The Chainsmokers' words, "that girl who we’re stuck on but is driving us crazy." That meaning makes the song more fun even if it isn't a good meaning. It was produced with Captain Cuts, who have also produced three top ten hits (if you include Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon) on #50Friday, including the amazing #1 I Got You by Bebe Rexha. The other was their own song, Love Like We Used To, which was a Hit-Bound dropout this year. There's no joke that this could be their fourth and maybe even their second #1. I'm so happy that this has the most plays on Spotify off the songs that were just released last Friday. This MUST be a single, and if you look HERE or HERE it turns out that a few others at Pulse Music Boards agree with me.

Rating: 10/10

Track 3: Bloodstream

The composition of this song reminds me of Closer or Paris a little bit. The EDM in the chorus isn't that active, yet it's still fine. This also has a good meaning. It's just not that upbeat for me to love it.

Rating: 8/10

Track 4: Don't Say (ft. Emily Warren)

Not much to say about this one, it's really just an average song for me. But that outro though is so weird it's funny. #QualmsQualmsQualmsQualms (yeah I had to)

Rating: 7.5/10

Track 5: Something Just Like This (ft. or with Coldplay)

When this song was released I was in Florida and I was out at the time of day it was released. I listened to it there and it really sounded like a mix of Roses and the original version of Hymn For the Weekend. The EDM in this is really active and upbeat for once. I think I still like it the same as I originally did, but however it is too late for this one to debut #50Friday. I'd have no problem with people loving this one.

Rating: 8.5/10

Track 6: My Type (ft. Emily Warren)

Yep, same girl on two tracks off this album. I like her vocals on this song, but the drop isn't too upbeat. I feel like that would be my main concern with some of the tracks on this album, which kinda wouldn't be fair. However, there's not much more to say about this one.

Rating: 8/10

Track 7: It Won't Kill Ya (ft. Louane)

The drop in this one feels slightly similar to Don't Let Me Down. It's really upbeat and "active". I like this girl's vocals too. There's not much more to say about this one, however.

Rating: 8/10

Track 8: Paris

As I recently said, I really only like the verses to this song. They are upbeat and catchy for me. It starts getting a little worse in the pre-chorus. The drop isn't that amazing. It was not an excellent choice for a single.

Rating: 7.5/10 (actually a 7/10 because of overplay*)

Track 9: Honest

This is not too much of an amazing song. Like The One, the EDM really kicks in in the second half of the song. I don't like the vocals much in this one. After the second chorus is my favorite part, the "whoa-oh" part.

Rating: 6.5/10

Track 10: Wake Up Alone (ft. Jhené Aiko)

The beginning of this song reminds me of the Marshmello remix of Make Me (Cry). But anyway this is catchy, and I think it's mostly because of her vocals and the drop. I don't know what's with the sudden change in the ending but that isn't a good part to the song. I do like this one though and I'd definitely recommend this as a single.

Rating: 8.5/10

Track 11: Young

I like the drop to this song and that's my favorite part. The verses aren't amazing but I like the meaning which is remembering the moments shared in a relationship. Anyway, there's not much more to talk about here.

Rating: 7.5/10

Track 12: Last Day Alive (ft. Florida Georgia Line)

It's quite interesting to see a mixture of EDM and country music here. While country isn't an amazing genre, I like this. The drop is fun and the verses are good here. It's not amazing but it's good.

Rating: 8/10

Bad news and good news. Bad news: Throwback top 5 and debuts will not be posted anymore. Good news: It will be replaced by throwback top 20 reviews, and it will be moved to before the "guess the song" section.

New Entrant

So we're letting in another boring song this week, but everyone has to have their bad songs debut once in a while. This one is really just too slow and has nothing to it. I've liked MAX's other music before, but I Hate U, I Love U was not something I liked last year. I hope this pulls an L.A. Devotee, honestly. As much as I've complained about it in the past two days, it's still not the worst song on the countdown.

Don't Leave is probably MØ's worst I've heard. She's been one of my favorite artists over the past two years, but this one isn't that amazing. It's certainly not bad, but not good either.

While All Night is the best debut, it's still not amazing. However, that doesn't mean it's still a good song. It's actually pretty catchy. It should not have debuted this late though.

Hit-Bound

  • Jason Derulo/Nicki Minaj/Ty Dolla $ign - Swalla
  • Harry Styles - Sign of the Times (DEBUT)
  • One Ok Rock - American Girls
  • The Chainsmokers/Coldplay - Something Just Like This
  • Mansionz/G-Eazy - Wicked (DEBUT)
  • Erin Bowman - Good Time Good Life
  • Halsey - Now or Never (DEBUT)
  • Kungs/Ephemerals - I Feel So Bad (DEBUT)
  • Aaron Carter - Sooner or Later (DEBUT)
  • Coin - Talk Too Much
  • Jon Bellion - Overwhelming
  • Lorde - Green Light
  • Ocean Park Standoff - Good News
  • Flo Rida/99 Percent - Cake
  • [Exit: Calvin Harris/Frank Ocean/Migos - Slide]
  • [Exit: Little Mix - Touch]
Being honest, I'd prefer the direction that Zayn took after One Direction rather than Niall or Harry. Zayn followed the pop/R&B route while Niall and Harry went pop-rock. Sign of the Times sounds like it's a classic rock song. It's kinda boring but also catchy sometimes. So maybe Harry is going to be like a rockstar someday.

So apparently Mike Posner is in this group Mansionz. I thought this would be rap at first (I didn't know Posner was in the group) based on the fact that most of the tracks on their album were explicit and *um* the album cover. But this is actually like funk music. It's kinda catchy if you ask me.

The beat in the chorus of Now or Never is probably my favorite thing about the song. It reminds me of Rihanna - Needed Me. Nothing much to say about it.

I Feel So Bad makes me realize that Kungs can hold on to being pretty good. This Girl was a great hit, while this is catchy too. In fact, I think it's the best Hit-Bound debut this week. The vocals are not amazing, but the EDM is the highlight of the song and I don't know how anyone can think that that's bad.

So this guy was apparently popular in the early 2000's (as a kid). Anyway, I think Sooner or Later is only good but nothing amazing. I don't know if it'll be a hit or not, but I guess I'll be fine with some popularity.

I don't even know why Something Just Like This is still on here. It's really high on the radio charts so I don't know why it's not on the WC. It wouldn't be fair for Hits 1 to still have an obsession with Closer now and just leave Something Just Like This here.

I don't know how Slide left. Parker suggested it was because there were rap artists in the song. But it's really rising up the radio charts. It's kinda interesting to see a song doing that be given up by Hits 1.

Of course Touch had to leave. It was just getting good.

Top 5 Picks
5. Flo Rida/99 Percent - Cake
4. Lorde - Green Light
3. Coin - Talk Too Much
2. One Ok Rock - American Girls
1. Jason Derulo/Nicki Minaj/Ty Dolla $ign - Swalla

I Been Up All Night, No Blurbs

I'm honestly happy about the 20-spot drop from Death of a Bachelor. My mom certainly would be happy too. :)

However, could L.A. Devotee be making a comeback? While still not in the top 30, it's hit a new peak.

Not surprised about Everyday dropping. If it was supposed to be popular it should have debuted earlier...

Treat You Better still shouldn't be in the top 30...no one likes this anymore, it's not popular anymore.

I hope to have an album review for The Chainsmokers' Memories...Do Not Open out by next Friday.

Yep. By some miracle, I have grown back into Just Hold On. The verses and drop are just too catchy for me to handle.

Looks like Miss You is making a comeback...at least I hope so. Hoping this can hit top 20 here. It really deserves it.

I was kinda surprised about the Heavy drop. That must've hurt, from the top 10 to out of the top 25. There are definitely a few people out there that are sad about this.

Now it's official, Bad Things isn't hitting #1. I guess I'm fine with that. Hey, #2 is better than nothing.

Dear Hits 1,

I'd really appreciate it if Heavydirtysoul would just move up and not just sit there at #18.

Sincerely, ..

To be honest, I still like Play That Song. I don't know when I'll get sick of it but it won't be at least for a few weeks.

I've decided that the only thing I really like about Paris is the verses, not the drop or pre-chorus or nothing else, just the verses. I just think they're catchy. :)

So many top 10 entrants this week! Let's do a mini-review:

  • Rockabye: It's finally made it to its deserving top 10 peak. Keep going!
  • Cold: Totally fine about this re-entering. It's a good song.
  • It Ain't Me: This is a good song and I'm happy about this being in the top 10.
  • Say You Won't Let Go: Wow. It's April 30, 2016 all over again.
  • Stay: Not only top 10, but #4?!? Thank you Hits 1!
Come on. Can That's What I Like hit #1? It really deserves it...Hey Shape of You, I really like you, but soon you're going to be replaced with a song that debuted when you first hit #1. That's how long you've been there!

5. The Weeknd/Daft Punk - I Feel it Coming
4. Bruno Mars - That's What I Like

#50Friday is out! Check out what our #1 is this week HERE. Be sure to comment!

Most Missed Song: Pink - Blow Me (One Last Kiss)

#1 Recommendation for Hits 1: Symon - No Way (Not sure if this is allowed on Hits 1 because Symon is the host of one of their shows, also the song is quite inappropriate)

Guess the song
  • I made the top 20 on both the Hot 100 and WC year-end lists for 2016.
  • My artist has had a #1 song on #50Friday (or #40Friday) in the past 9 months.
  • My time length is over 3 and a half minutes long.

Ed Sheeran (8) - April 1, 2017

Image result for ed sheeran
Hey guys! Sorry this post is out late. The countdown was not fully revealed until about evening on Saturday. I was sick with an "allergic reaction" this week, so I took 3 days of school off. I was never allergic to anything in my life though. Okay, you guys probably don't care, so let's get to the countdown. Oh, actually, I do need to add something. It was April Fools' Day on Saturday. Just going to let you know that there are no jokes in this post.

This week was another boring 1-exit week. We have not had a 3-exit week in a month, and a 4+ exit week in two months. This exit, however, was one of the most hated countdown songs by us in the past year. It's been through ups and downs, literally. It went as low as #44 about two months into its countdown run, and then went to peak at #6. My opinion also changed on it, as it was originally good, then bad, then good, then bad. It was the oldest song on the countdown, so here it is:

X Ambassadors - Unsteady
Last Week: #44 | Peak: #06 | Weeks on Chart: 50

Now, here's the countdown:

45. Daya - Words
Last Week: #45 | Peak: #21 | Weeks on Chart: 09

44. Coldplay/SeeB - Hymn For The Weekend
Last Week: #42 | Peak: #04 | Weeks on Chart: 33

Last Week: #41 | Peak: #03 | Weeks on Chart: 28

42. Niall Horan - This Town
Last Week: #36 | Peak: #02 | Weeks on Chart: 26

41. Bebe Rexha - I Got You
Last Week: #43 | Peak: #13 | Weeks on Chart: 08

40. Noah Cyrus/Labrinth - Make Me (Cry)
Last Week: #40 | Peak: #26 | Weeks on Chart: 06

39. Ariana Grande/Nicki Minaj - Side To Side
Last Week: #37 | Peak: #10 | Weeks on Chart: 23

38. Maroon 5 - Don't Wanna Know
Last Week: #38 | Peak: #01 | Weeks on Chart: 24

Last Week: #18 | Peak: #05 | Weeks on Chart: 18

New Entrant
Everyday is a little catchy. It won't debut #40Friday though. The lyrics are quite vulgar. It's starting to flop on radio a little, so I don't see it staying here long. And that's all I have to say about it.

Hit-Bound
  • Snakehips/MØ - Don't Leave
  • Ocean Park Standoff - Good News
  • Erin Bowman - Good Time Good Life
  • Calvin Harris/Frank Ocean/Migos - Slide
  • Jon Bellion - Overwhelming (DEBUT)
  • MAX/Gnash - Lights Down Low
  • Lorde - Green Light
  • Flo Rida/99 Percent - Cake
  • The Chainsmokers/Coldplay - Something Just Like This
  • The Vamps/Matoma - All Night
  • One Ok Rock - American Girls
  • Little Mix - Touch
  • Coin - Talk Too Much
  • Jason Derulo/Nicki Minaj/Ty Dolla $ign - Swalla
It's official, Hits 1 is only adding songs to their station from artists they like. There are so many hits/future hits that can be added to this station *cough* Down *cough*...

Top 5 Picks
5. Lorde - Green Light
4. Coin - Talk Too Much
3. Little Mix - Touch
2. One Ok Rock - American Girls
1. Jason Derulo/Nicki Minaj/Ty Dolla $ign - Swalla

Everyblurb
Lmao. Is Hits 1 actually underrating a P!ATD song? I never would have expected this.

Glad to see a jump from Miss You, hopefully it hits top 20.

The biggest jump was probably the best thing that happened this week. I am really enjoying it now and even though it's not a hit I want to see it in the top 10 soon.

I'm finding it hard to believe that Cold was actually in the top 3 for a week. If we only looked at its current position, last week position, and weeks on chart so far, it would look like it only peaked at #12 or so.

Of course Say You Won't Let Go is back in the top 15. On the radio charts, it's showing signs of flopping soon, so I hope that happens.

Oh well Bad Things, thanks for trying. You were so close to #1 but did not quite get it.

We have two interesting top 5 entrants. First is Castle on the Hill, which I have upgraded to "decent". I guess it's not too bad but it isn't really a big radio hit yet so I guess Hits 1 likes it.

Second was That's What I Like. I hope it hits #1 here but something tells me that won't happen. I'm still a little surprised that this was a bigger hit than 24K Magic, not just on this chart.

I doubt Mercy will hit #1 at this point.

Get ready for a rant.

#2 makes me want to vomit. Well, not literally, I just needed to add a hyperbole to this blurb. It is #20 on the radio charts, #17 on the Hot 100, #38 on the Spotify charts (USA) and #2 here. It first hit #1 here exactly 6 months ago. Yes, that's a half of a year. It peaked at #10 on #40Friday and now it's really close to being a bad song. I really would not want to hate it, but thanks to Hits 1, it's pretty close. And seriously, do not pull a Heathens and hit #1 three months after you last did, which would be 4 months for this song. If this is in the top 2 for another week, I'm putting it in red. If the following is reading this, you have my permission to copy and paste this to your post but you must say I typed it: Sasha, Graham, WAMB10, or Chase.

I'm honestly kinda sick of seeing the same #1 every single week now. Don't get me wrong, I still love Shape of You, but I think it's had enough time at #1. I'd prefer That's What I Like at #1 instead.

Top 5 Picks
Same exact picks as my top 5 on #40Friday.

2nd Amendment to .'s Blog Rules
I should have mentioned this last week, but you are allowed to use "#team_____" or "#teamno_____" for songs only. You can not use this with people, whether it's a singer or a blog commenter.

Guess the song
One of the two songs was not answered last week, so here are the answers to the questions, if I remember correctly:

A1. #24
A2. Panic! at the Disco - Victorious
A3. Blue
A4. Hozier - Someone New
B1. March 11, 2017
B2. #12
B3. Zay Hilfigerrr/Zayion McCall - Juju on That Beat

Now here's a song to guess:
  • I debuted the WC in 2014. [1. How many exits did my debut week have?]
  • My artist had one other song on the WC, and it left in 2017. [2. What color did Adrian have that song in when it left?]
  • My artist also has another song that could possibly be a hit soon, but it's not on Hits 1 yet. [3. What position is this song in on the radio chart for April 2, 2017?]
  • [4. What song am I? Comment if you need another hint.]
